How to Display and Care for Anime Figures and Statues: A Chennai Collector’s Guide

Bringing a new figure home is the easy part. Keeping it looking as good in two years as it did on day one takes a little planning, especially in a city like Chennai, where strong sunlight and humid air are part of everyday life. This guide covers how to choose a spot, how to arrange different kinds of pieces, and the simple care habits that keep paint, effect parts and joints in good shape.

Start with the right spot

Where a figure lives matters more than anything you do to it later.

  • Keep it out of direct sunlight. Sunlight fades paint over time and can yellow clear or translucent parts. A shelf on a wall that the sun does not reach is ideal.
  • Watch the humidity. Damp air invites dust to stick and can dull finishes. Avoid spots right next to a window, a bathroom door or an AC vent that drips. A few silica gel packets inside a closed cabinet help.
  • Use a stable surface. A heavy statue needs a shelf that can take its weight without sagging, and enough depth that the base sits fully on it.
  • Think about dust. A glass-front cabinet cuts down cleaning a lot. Open shelves look great, but plan on a gentle dusting every week or two.

Large statues: give them room

A big statue works best as a centrepiece with space around it, not squeezed between other pieces. The Goku Ultra Instinct 55cm Statue (₹9,500) is a good example: at 55cm tall, with Goku rising out of a swirl of purple and blue energy effects above a sculpted base, it needs a deep, sturdy shelf at roughly eye level. Place it towards the back of the shelf so an elbow cannot knock it, and lift it by the base, never by the effect parts or the figure itself.

Dioramas: display them as a scene

A diorama tells a story, so give it a spot where it can be seen from the front, the way it was designed. The Gol D. Roger Execution Day Diorama (₹4,000) recreates the Pirate King’s final moment: Roger seated and chained on the wooden execution platform, with two marine guards crossing their spears over him. Pieces like this have small separate parts, so check that every part is seated properly after moving it, and keep it away from shelf edges.

Effect parts need gentle handling

Translucent flames and energy effects are often the most eye-catching part of a figure, and the most fragile. The Charizard Fire-Blast Display Figure (₹2,500) shows Charizard diving through translucent flame effects on a sculpted base. To keep effects like these looking clear:

  • Hold the figure by its base, not by the flames.
  • Keep it out of the sun, which is what usually clouds clear parts.
  • Dust with a soft makeup brush rather than a cloth that can catch on thin points.

Action figures: pose with care

Articulated figures are fun because you can change the pose, but joints wear if they are forced. The Madara Uchiha Samurai Armor Figure (₹3,499) comes with his war fan, a chain-and-scythe weapon and a bonus mini bust on a display stand. Move joints slowly, stop when you feel resistance, and keep the small accessories you are not using in a labelled bag so they do not go missing. The bust also makes a nice second display point beside the main figure.

Smaller figures: group by theme

Mid-sized and smaller pieces look best grouped by series or colour, with taller figures at the back. The Gojo Satoru Aesthetic PVC Figure (₹3,499) shows Gojo in a calm standing pose, one hand lifting his blindfold, in his dark uniform. The Coraline 18cm Collectible Statue with Cat Companion (₹4,000) pairs Coraline in her yellow raincoat with her black cat as a separate piece, so you can decide how close to place them. Leave a little space between figures so you can dust without knocking the next one over.

Simple cleaning routine

  • Use a soft, dry brush or a camera air blower for regular dusting.
  • Avoid alcohol, glass cleaner or strong chemicals on painted surfaces.
  • If a piece is really dusty, dust it first, then wipe only the base with a slightly damp cloth and let it dry fully.
  • Keep the original box. It is the safest way to store or move a figure, and collectors often value it.

Frequently asked questions

Should I keep the box after unboxing?

Yes, if you have the space. The box and its inserts protect the figure when you move house or rearrange shelves, and many collectors prefer pieces that still have them.

How often should I clean my figures?

For open shelves, a light dusting every week or two is usually enough. Figures inside a closed glass cabinet need much less.

Is it fine to keep figures in a room with AC?

Yes. A steady, dry room is good for figures. Just keep them away from the vent itself and anywhere water could drip.
